There are many processes I go through mentally. There are new and profitable ones being created that are trying to get a foothold, but they are still new. Adjusting to a new mental pattern is like being in no man's land. The old one just starts to fit a little bit less and the thought is still seeking to print itself into the reality. The thought is still in the mental stream, but it now meets a resistance. An example of this is when a food addict starts having thoughts of food. The thought is still in the Physical Reality Pre-Production Phase. It is already taking place on the mental plane, so it is still an inherent part of the person and happening in the probable future reality. The first stage of changing the mental pattern is resisting physical manifestation. Since the mind is the most powerful thing and will actualize what it thinks about the most, it's pretty pointless to just go on resisting the thought forever. The source needs to be taken out.
The thought itself needs to be extinguished. People with food compulsions, or any compulsion will have to redistribute the energy from the compulsion to something else. When the thought pattern is taken out, the tangled up energy will be left in no man's land (referenced above). It is a lot like trying to cypher the Hoover Dam through a garden hose at that point. With that kink worked out, new thoughts will flow through with a rush. They will be parts of you that are more profitable. The creative side of your subconscious will be able to get through the positive ideas to manifest. I am operating under the assumption that the deepest part of a person is love based, so when negativity is worked out, the natural being ness below can properly express itself. This is the end point though.
Let's get back to the laborious part of changing negative mental patterns, which only works by extinguishing them, since negativity is not sustainable for a being that is loving at its core. Let's switch to a gambling addict now, so the foodies don't feel picked on. When the process begins, the positive thought is pure background noise. The addict thinks, "yeah that's nice, but never gonna happen." They say this subconsciously since everyone would consciously say they want the most loving and spiritually profitable scenario to play out. Deep mental patterns do not care what your little intellect has to say. They will be there until you get rid of them, just like trash will always be there rotting no matter how much perfume you try to spray on it, or how cleverly you hide in from sight. As loving beings, all rotten things find their way to the surface to be dealt with, so we can become happier and more joyful people. This is good, otherwise we would never grow. Anyways, the first stage of pre production usually sticks around as you manifest it differently. You will still have the negativity, but your physical body will start acting different. The only way to achieve this is to introduce positive thoughts into your stream of consciousness. So a negative pattern will be something like an image of pizza or a french fry. Okay, here's the pattern at work here. You are thinking of pizza, so now your body will start the reaction process. In the old days, your body would go straight into manifestation mode without a second thought.
Once you start thinking "I need to change this" you are starting to mess with the stream. This will be thrown into the fray now each time you go through that process. So next occasion will be the thought of pizza and then the accompanying thought of "no" but with little velocity behind it. The compulsion will be actualized yet again. You're in charge of the stream, so you could just say "screw it" and then that new thought will be taken out of the mix soon and replaced with a new negative thought to help the old pattern. But, that will not end well and you will feel horrible, but relieved short term, since new things are frightening by nature.
Repetition is the key to changing a mental process. Use images that work for you. These images you think of are not merely snapshots without life. Thoughts are things and they are alive, contrary to the dogmatic understanding that they are a byproduct of biological activity (which is the actual illusion funny enough). Thoughts have one mission, and that is to survive, like every other living thing in the universe.
When you first begin changing a negative pattern, you'll likely notice the pattern lashing out at the new idea, like the gremlins did to Gizmo when they met him. This is normal and good. The old pattern will assert itself as the dominant vibe. You'll notice your feelings are strongest with it. But, that will not last long if you keep swinging the new thought through intentionally. The process must be intellectual at first, before the subconscious grabs it fully and makes it a permanent member of the Stream Team.
It takes effort at first and an exertion of mental will at first, but it will eventually go on autopilot. More on this later.
